Christmas All Wrapped up at Vista Retreats!
Christmas is one of our favourite times of year!
The Festive Time of Year is Fabulous on the Yorkshire Coast.
It is the perfect time to book a winter break.
With Christmas on the horizon, this is the time of year to be indulgent and book a winter staycation!
Kick off the shoes, grab a bottle of your favourite wine and relax.
Or perhaps this year a festive break is just what the family needs.
Time away from the routine will make for a memorable celebration
Post or pre-Christmas, it can be time out with tinsel, baubles and of course lots of seasonal cheer.
Get way from life’s stress and strain with a winter break.
Chilly Outside?
When the temperatures drop, this is the time to snuggle up, enjoy hot chocolate and simply relax.
Take a look at the properties we have available for some inspirational breaks.
From gorgeous kitchen and dining spaces (perfect for a huge feast!) to relaxing lounge areas, you can eat, drink and be merry.
And when you want to retire for the day, a comfortable bedroom awaits.
The Yorkshire Coast This Winter
While many of us connect the seaside to summer breaks, actually the Yorkshire Coast is very popular in autumn and winter.
With the beaches less crowded, and dogs allowed on the sands, it’s a great time of year for bracing walks, safe wave watching and stunning sunsets.
With lots of great cafes, restaurants and pubs, you can enjoy some time away from the kitchen too.
As the sun sets, watch out for the winter’s starry skies sparkle over the sea and wait for the Christmas moon to rise.
What’s Happening on the Yorkshire Coast
While the summer offers great entertainment along the Coast, there’s lots to do this Christmas!
With many holiday cottages in superb locations, you can explore the different events and festivals.
Whitby This Winter
A perennial favourite is nearby Whitby.
Easy to reach by car or bus, this iconic port includes lots of winter entertainment.
The town’s Christmas Festival takes place on 18th, 18th and 19th November.
The 2nd and 3rd of November features the annual Krampus Run in the town.
In December there is also the Boxing Day Dip on 26th December.
The town’s Abbey is worth a visit, sitting atop the famous 199 Steps.
Scarborough’s Celebrations
This seaside resort has several unique ways of celebrating Christmas.
Each year, Santa arrives not by sleigh but by boat in the town’s bustling harbour.
This takes place in November each year and it brings thousands of families into town.
It’s great fun!
The town is also spoilt for choice in terms of panto season, with several productions taking place throughout the town at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, the Spa Theatre and the YMCA.
However, anyone booking a winter break in the town at one of our properties are really in for a big treat in November and December.
As part of Scarborough Fair, the Scarborough Lights festival is set to be a stunning visual spectacle!
From 15th November to 23rd December, Scarborough Lights will include free and paid-for events.
There will be a Winter Lights trail at Peasholm park, new light installations at St Mary’s Church in the Old Town (16th November to 20th November).
Scarborough Sparkle and Lantern Parade will return this year and there will be a Town Centre Trail.
Scarborough Train Station is also involved on 2nd to 9th December.
Other venues include Scarborough Castle, the Rotunda Museum and Scarborough Spa among others.
Festive Filey
Filey Brigg is a stunning place to visit along with the Esplanade and the Coble Landing.
See the magnificent Christmas tree, made of crab and lobster pots.
The streets are crammed with independent shops too for some special festive shopping.
Other Ways to Enjoy Winter
There are so many ways you can enjoy your winter break.
Bring the woollies, hats, scarves and gloves, and don’t forget your walking boots!
With two National Trials on the doorstep (the Cleveland Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way) you can plan a long or short route to work up an appetite.
If you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet, the Yorkshire Coast and market towns such as Pickering, Malton and Driffield are studded with boutique shops, high street names and most towns have beautiful festive lights that will add sparkle to your shopping spree.
With so many visitor attractions open during the run up to Christmas, why not visit the North Bay Railway and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, both of which host Santa Specials (not just for kids!).
Nearby stately homes such as Castle Howard, Sewerby Hall and Sledmere House host stunning Christmas events.
Then of course it is time to really splurge on the food and drink!
With excellent food outlets, you can buy local produce if you’re preparing a Christmas feast.
From vegan to meat offerings, there is something for everyone.
Perhaps you have a favourite recipe you want to try, or maybe it’s a more relaxed affair with lots of tasty snacks, light bites and more.
When you’re away from home and relaxing in your holiday accommodation, you can do as you please.
Indulge in Relaxation
Most of us don’t relax enough, so getting away on a festive break provides the perfect excuse to chill out!
Maybe you’ve got a favourite flick that gets you into the Christmas mood!
Why not reread your favourite book or open the pages of a tale you’ve been meaning to read for a long time.
Lots of people enjoy board games or even a tricky jigsaw.
Time away from phone and computer screens can make you feel more relaxed.
The Experiences We Offer
We offer some truly inspiring experiences, available to guests who stay in our accommodations.
Away from the Coast
The local area is festooned with other non-seaside places to enjoy a winter outing!
Raincliffe Woods, the North York Moors, pretty inland village pubs, and interesting museums are all within easy reach by road or rail.
A Great Time To Go!
So whether you’re taking the kids, the grandparents, or if you’re going as a couple or a solo traveller, winter breaks are just as much fun as summer ones.
In fact, they can be more relaxing as the dark evenings means you can curl up on the sofa.
Take time to chat, have fun conversations and reminisce.
